MUE 802 - Music learning in blogosphere

Visit the following blogs and observe the kinds of music learning that is taking place:

1. Blogs as listening journals (Aug 09) [XJ]

2. Blogs as research diaries (Aug-Oct 08) [Charmian]

3. Edublog for band members [Lawrence]

Each of you have been assigned a particular focus, please prepare a short summary presentation of your findings and thoughts in class on Thurs, 29 Oct 09. If the above blogs do not appeal to you, you may choose from http://www.soyouwanttoteach.com/a-partial-timeline-of-music-education-blogging/.

MUE 802 - Readings on emerging technology

Read Siemens and Tittenberger's Handbook of Emerging Technologies for Learning – elearnspace (esp. pp. 1-34; you may skim through the remaining sections)

Questions to respond to on your blog:

1. Who is George Siemens? What has he been advocating in the last 10 years or so? (You will need to do a little research here; don't spend too much time on this though.)

2. How does he characteristize/summarize the nature of learning in the 21st century? To what extent do you identify with his description in terms of your own learning and your students'?

3. Which of the four models of teaching/learning (Atelier Learning, Network Administrator, Concierge Learning and Curatorial Learning) do you think is applicable to music teaching/learning?

MUE 802 - Initial reflections on e-learning

Post on your own blog your responses to the following:

  1. What are some positive and negative experiences you have had with e-learning, whether in music or in other subjects?
  2. Have your e-learning experiences changed the way you now think of learning in general? How so?
  3. Looking at the e-learning experiences of your own students (or students you come into contact with), how do you thinking their learning has been transformed?

After you have uploaded your thoughts, you may then read and respond to your fellow students' postings.
